Past forecasts
The themes that we will encounter in 2007 are already with us as the year opens. It is useful to get an overview of the year now, when we are planting seeds that will come to fruition as the months pass.
The first thing to be aware of is the fact that these two themes relate to two universal
forces, the stabilizing force (represented astrologically by the fixed signs — Taurus, Leo,
Scorpio, Aquarius) and the integrating force (represented by the mutable signs — Gemini, Virgo,
Sagittarius, Pisces). They interact to create harmonies that we can use to smooth our way.
So, if you have planets predominantly in the fixed signs, you will be more aware of
challenges related to the fixed pattern. If your planets are predominantly in mutable signs, you
can expect more bang for the buck during the time the mutable pattern is stronger. Generally,
these are the times when these patterns are strong from year to year:
Fixed Jan 20 – Feb 19 (Sun in Aquarius)
Apr 20 – May 21 (Sun in Taurus)
July 23 – Aug 23 (Sun in Leo)
Oct 23 – Nov 22 (Sun in Scorpio)
Mutable Feb 19 – Mar 21 (Sun in Pisces)
May 21 – June 21 (Sun in Gemini)
Aug 23 – Sep 23 (Sun in Virgo)
Nov 22 – Dec 22 (Sun in Sagittarius)
Since I am discussing these patterns in general terms, I should include the third pattern in
the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), relating to the initiating force. It will not be
emphasized this year, but its time is coming starting next year. The cardinal periods are:
Cardinal Dec 22 – Jan 20 (Sun in Capricorn)
Mar 21 – Apr 20 (Sun in Aries)
June 21 – July23 (Sun in Cancer)
Sep 23 – Oct 23 (Sun in Libra)
You may noticed “clusters” of events that occur during the times of your particular
pattern each year, following a rhythm of life that you have come to accept as a part of life. It is
typical for the times relating to your dominant pattern to be the busiest times of the year for you.
However, there are specific, less regular, times which lie outside these predictable periods when
your experiences will also be heightened, which I cover on a monthly basis in this forecast.
The Fixed Pattern Finalizes Our Awakening.
We’re almost done with the fixed pattern for this round. It has been with us since July 31,
2005. (See the August 06 forecast for a time table.) It has brought the stabilizing force to the
surface. As you might expect, we become more conscious of stability in our lives, and may seek
security more than before. When stability becomes extreme, it turns into resistance; when
security needs reach an extreme, we get stuck in a rut in our life and feel unable to change. Even
if we are willing to change and understand this force well, this may not be true of others around
us. By now, you can identify an area in your life where you have felt stuck or encountered
resistance. Or, if we have used this energy wisely, we have felt ourselves challenged to work
through a process, one which has been taking a long time to bring to the reward phase. The
question we must answer is, “How do you know when to give in?” The question we want to ask
is, “How much longer do I have to hang on?”
Faith Versus Doubt
I have spoken at length about the effects of the planets involved here, Saturn and Neptune
(See Chart B below). For this detailed explanation, go to my forecasts from May (for
global/mundane effects), August (for personal influences), and September (for a historical and
personal perspective) 06. Briefly, here’s how their interaction works:
Neptune, oversimplified, is faith; Saturn is doubt. Saturn and Neptune at the culmination
of their cycle represent a crisis in faith. If we can use it at its highest form, we can develop a
greater understanding of the unseen elements of life. This is not as vague as it seems. All around
us, we are hearing reports of people who are researching and codifying subtle energies. Although
those who rely only on their eyes see the unseen world as vague, unstructured, and suspect, those
who have tried to perceive and understand it know that it has order, structure, and logic. It is real;
it can be sensed, and it plays an important role in our everyday lives even if we are unaware of it.
The Unseen is Real.
Saturn-Neptune contacts bring new understanding of how real the unseen is. What in the
past has been called “spiritual” now becomes a science. Physicists have been describing energy
and its effects for years, but they have yet to perceive, describe, and test the energies of the
planets or the “inner realms” in any exhaustive manner. There is a growing body of information
on all these phenomena, however, and it will continue to blossom as Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto
move through Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. As Saturn contacts Neptune, it gives us all a
chance to “ground” our experiences of the subtle world. We create or attach an explanation to our
perceptions. We discover or develop a theory that makes sense of them, and in doing so we give
them more validity even in our own mind. Meditations for contemplation and inner peace
become explorations of novel realms of consciousness and bring new understanding to others as
well as ourselves.
It can also be a time of spiritual initiation, when we accept a new, higher vibration of light
into our consciousness. The fixed pattern we have been experiencing has been instrumental in
opening many people to a greater “light quotient”. Many people (and our planet) have been
working through the 4th initiation, which is about conflict versus harmony. A planetary doorway
opened in August 05, and many souls elected to accept initiation at that time. However, this
initiation only begins the process of integrating a higher light content into their nature — the
battle began then. The planets facilitated this through their pattern which brought conflict out in
people’s lives, both internally and externally. By the end of the summer, this initiatory opening
will be complete, and so will the challenge that many souls faced since its start.
Society Wakes Up.
For most, however, it is a time of
dispelling illusion, and everyone has something
to learn on this score. Witness the US election
this fall — not who won, but why. As a species,
people are becoming more aware of how
interdependent we are. Our ability to survive
hangs on the actions of everyone, not just a
few. It isn’t enough for only some nations to
cut carbon emissions; every nation must do so.
It isn’t enough for us to only get along with
people we like and agree with; we must also
find a way to harmonize with people we don’t
understand and disagree with.
The Power of Positive Planets
What’s really great about the Saturn and
Neptune interaction this year is that they are
harmoniously tied to both Jupiter and Pluto,
potentiating our opportunities for positive
results. It makes this year, overall, a time when
incredible positive events can occur. (See Chart
B.)
The Fixed Pattern’s Key Qualities and Dates
Here are some of the key qualities of the fixed signs (stabilizing force). They are taken
from my books, Born to Be Together and Astrological Healing. Under fixed patterns, we may:
• have a tendency to hold things in
• be slow to change
• need time to get used to new ideas
• naturally resist change and newness; once accept change, will be committed to it
• need initial support and trust
• become stubborn if pushed or manipulated
• not overtly respond
The peak dates for this pattern in 2007 are:
Key dates February 8–10 and 28
March 22–25
April 19
May 24
June 25
How Peak Dates Work
There are other dates that will tie in as well, perhaps even bringing more noticeable
experiences into your life than these dates, when your individual chart and circumstances are
considered. However, the dates here feed key processes and will factor into whatever happens. In
addition, actual peak events can occur in your life on or near these dates.
The Mutable Pattern Brings Big Change.
I have been talking about the mutable pattern with increasing frequency since mid-2006,
but it has been with us in a slow burn since 1995 when Pluto entered Sagittarius. Recently, our
experience of the integrating force began to be foregrounded when the eclipses series entered
Virgo-Pisces in March 06. For other descriptions of what is contained in this period, see the
forecasts of March and June 06.
In 2007, there are so many interweaving planetary contacts in these signs, they defy
description. Taken as a whole, however, they will result in change, in some instances huge and
miraculous, whose roots lie in seeds planted in 1995.
From Vision to Reality
When a planet enters a new sign (even the Moon), it’s like it walked into a room. For the
whole time it’s in that sign, it’s in that room and anything “it” does in that room affects our
experiences for the entire time that it’s in that sign. What’s more, when it first enters the room,
we see its purpose in our lives on a deep level, one that is not influenced by ego (yet). At that
moment of perfect inspiration, we instinctively know what we are there to do, what will most
fulfill our growth without regard for personal sacrifice or degree of challenge. From this point of
perfection, we set our affirmation for the entire time the planet is in the sign. While this is
modifiable and we do so constantly, the seed of our vision stays with us until the planet in
question leaves the sign. When we’re talking about the Moon, this affirmation stays with us for
2½ days. However, with the slower-moving bodies, our vision stays with us for much longer.
Pluto’s or Neptune’s current sojourn through a sign is about 13 years, requiring perseverance to
carry on through the challenges of fulfilling our vision.
You Get What You Ask For.
Pluto is near the end of its travel through Sagittarius (it enters Capricorn on January 25
next year). As we complete the manifestation of our vision over the coming year, it can be
helpful to go back to what we took on in 1995. That’s when I decided it was time to learn more
about the unseen world, without knowing how it would happen (or scarcely that this was my
vision). Opportunities arose where I would learn about this, from studies in depth psychology to
energy healing training.
This is a universal truth, but they say that with Pluto, you get what you ask for. I say that
you just notice it more with Pluto! Pluto brings profound, life-changing transformation. We have
trouble with this when we focus on what we’re letting go of or get caught in the temporary
discomforts of the transition. When it’s all over, the benefits we’ve dreamed and hoped for come
through. Some of these are intangible, felt on the soul and spirit level of our consciousness, but
we experience others in the deeper meaning we find in the events of our everyday life.
Why Pluto Matters Now
One thing Pluto teaches us is to look for what’s really going on, for therein lies the truth.
It’s not often evident on the surface of events and perceptions. To read the “under story”, we
have to look deeper. As we look at the planetary interactions in the mutable signs — any of them
— everything will be about Pluto and what we undertook 12 years ago. All the mutable events
we experience this year will be building up to the “completion” date when Jupiter reaches Pluto,
on December 11. When Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 23, it walked into the same
room , that Pluto’s been in since 1995. Now it’s time to party hearty, because we’re feeling the
pull toward the completion that will come when they conjoin. It’s already happening!
The Sub-Plot: Uranus Rides Again!
However, Jupiter is not the only player — Uranus is in on the act as well. Jupiter will be
contacting it three times this year, part of the zig-zag path we follow to reach our goals this year.
Uranus the innovator with Jupiter the magnifier is a heady mix indeed! Add the fact that they are
in an energizing angle to each other (a square), and we have plenty of activity to look forward to.
Under this interaction, we can expect scientific breakthroughs, truths challenging religious
doctrine, and surprising social changes. In our personal lives, it’s another opportunity to think
outside the box to create truly inventive results. Unlike last year, when these two planets
harmonized, there will be more urgency to resolve life’s dilemmas.
As with any two planets’ interaction, this forms part of a larger cycle. In this case, it’s one
that started in February 1997. The key dates in this cycle are:
Key dates Feb 15, 1997
May 20, 2000
Aug 29, 2003
Jan 22, May 10, Oct 9, 2007
What’s fantastic about this contact is that, even though there may be some stress involved
in resolving the situations that arise when this contact occurs, there are opportunities for very
positive results because of a flowing harmonious contact with Saturn. Last year’s efforts will
feed this year’s positive results from this.
The Integrating Force
We use the integrating force to complete (integrate) processes — to make them whole.
Another word for this is to heal them. (In fact, ‘heal’ and ‘whole’ come from the same root, as
does ‘health’.) Through the integrating force, we solve problems, put out the proverbial fires of
business, and bring situations to perfection. Mutable energy is flexible and bends with the winds
of change. Mutable people move around obstacles rather than through them. When they are
overwhelmed, they feel fragmented — unwhole. Integration also brings realizations and new
wisdom as bits of information become connected with each other. We can expect new insights to
lift us to new heights this year under the prevailing contacts. The mutable signs can be
characterized as (more excerpts from my books):
• basically flexible, wanting to make things work
• having frequent ups and downs
• easily taking on & throwing off new ideas & situations
• open to newness but have to work at discipline, may live
chaotically/arhythmically
• sensitive
• wanting instant results, become easily discouraged
• not following through due to distractions, scattering
And Now for the Local Story
The planetary dragons are asleep as the new year starts, but Jupiter and Uranus have their first
interaction later in the month. For this reason, January holds great potential for progress, since
we’re getting a welcome break. The focalized planetary cluster we saw during October,
November, and December is largely dispersed, and open doors and opportunity are our key words
now. After the constant activity of that time, we want (and need) to relax. However, it is, if we
can manage it, a fantastic time to continue our efforts toward our goals. We will have the
breathing space to complete some long-term projects and long-held goals without so many
interruptions. In addition, it’s an excellent time to lay the foundation for the accomplishments we
wish to gain in the coming year. So many of the planetary cycles are just beginning, that we can
make greatest use of them by putting building blocks in place. Just as importantly, it is not the
time to expect grand results. (They’re as close as April due to Saturn’s cycle.) Instead, plant
seeds. Listen to the wind in response to your efforts. Try out new ideas and see which ones
flourish.
Small Picture Planetary Events Trigger Bigger Patterns.
On the 2nd, actions are taken to fulfill long-held dreams and intentions. As of this writing,
the execution of Saddam Hussein fits this energy. The Full Moon on the 3rd brings life and
emotional fulfillment. Planetary contacts flow smoothly until the 22nd, when both the fixed and
mutable patterns are triggered. If you can step back from the activities of the day, take note of
what occurs — you’ll be receiving clues of what the rest of the year holds. The rest of the month
gives additional insights, especially on the 28th and 30th. Chiron’s new yearly cycle begins on the
30th, bringing out a new focus in healing and spiritual growth.
A Golden Wave to Ride
Life springs eternal, and so do planetary opportunities. From the 15th through the 22nd,
there are 8 hours each day (in 2-hour segments) when astrology can again be used to enhance our
successes, especially in agreements, job interviews, real estate transactions, and business
partnerships, and love relationships. Given all the other factors supporting Mercury and Jupiter
(the planets involved), these can be especially auspicious.
Let Your Optimism Be Your Guide.
With so much going for us, surely we can meet the challenges that arise. The key is to see
ourselves as bigger than our problems. When we can see the context of our experiences, we can
stand outside them and keep our perspective. Keeping our perspective, we can see the situations
that arise as being resolvable. Once we know this in our hearts, this confidence communicates
itself to others, and they respond by making it easier to get to harmonious resolutions — a
fantastic way to start the year!
