Past forecasts
E
ven though it came out several months ago, I saw “The Fountain” for the first time this
past weekend. My experience of the film mirrors June’s planetary pattern. We will feel
uplifted, old patterns swept away — even if we wanted to hold onto them.
Mutability Rules.
Since Jupiter entered Sagittarius on Thanksgiving Day last year, there has been more
pressure on the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces). If you have planets in those
signs, you may have noticed that your life is a little fuller, events are more dramatic. This fact has
been highlighted by the eclipses in March. In June, Jupiter reaches the peak of its cycle, when the
challenges we’ve been facing find their pinnacle. On or around June 5, the issue(s) that arose in
late November become fully evident, and we have (or get the opportunity) to take action that will
begin to resolve the situation. Over the coming two months, you’ll be able to establish yourself at
the new level that you have been reaching toward through Jupiter’s year-long cycle. Key dates in
this cycle include April 5 and August 6.
However, there is another layer to the mutable story. Jupiter isn’t the only player in the
mutable signs — there are also Uranus and Pluto. In June, it’s the combination of Jupiter and
Uranus that will be creating all the drama. Last year, Jupiter and Uranus were in harmony with
each other. They helped us see the world as a place of possibility, limited only by our sense of
how much risk was acceptable (with Saturn challenging Jupiter’s optimism). This year, we’re
facing the challenges of manifesting the possibilities we saw then. If we overextended ourselves
(a common Jupiter thing to do), we are having to make adjustments this year, and the tension in
the related situations will be greatest in June.
However, the tension in mutable signs is very different from that of the fixed sign pattern
we’ve been used to since mid-2005. Where fixed tension results in obstacles and feeling stuck,
mutable tension results in overwhelm and feeling scattered. A successful use of fixed energy
establishes a new structure in our lives, while a successful use of mutable energy allows us to
transcend through new perceptions. The I Ching counsels us that the easiest problem to solve is
one that exists because we perceive it to be a problem. All we need to do is to come to a correct
perception of the situation, and the problem disappears.
This is not as easy as it sounds — in fact, it may be the greatest challenge of all, because
we must face our masks and misconceptions, ones that we have held on to in order to survive. So
it can feel like we are dying when we let go of long-held, cherished misunderstandings about the
world.
Given the fact that Mercury turns retrograde in Cancer on the , the question that comes up
is “how can I survive _____?” How can I survive the summer? How can I survive this job? How
can I survive this relationship? and so forth. We are likely to feel as though our ability to live is
threatened by our circumstances.
Blessings Come.
The potential for transcendence exists in the moment that we let go of our old
perceptions, and that’s what June is about. We get a chance to unlearn what we thought was true
but on reflection we realize is not. We can be blessed if we can open ourselves to the moment
and surrender to what comes to us.
The challenge is discernment. How do we know that we are opening and surrendering to
the right thing? The key is in the experience. We have to feel the truth of what comes. How do
we know what is true? How do we know we aren’t fooling ourselves? Truth is ultimately a
feeling. For me, it feels like an expansion and release or relaxation in my chest. I feel at peace. If
you have these feelings (or your own version), you are in touch with universal consciousness, and
truth lies there.
Frequently, with the dynamic that exists between Jupiter and Uranus right now, the truth
we learn may shock us as it releases us, but it will also set us free. In fact, the strongest feeling
you may have (or have available to you) is that wonderful feeling of freedom that comes when
you let go of a burden or difficulty. Letting go does not mean giving up on it, but only that you
stop trying to control it. This permits the universe to act on our behalf, and miracles can happen.
Even as we enter June, this energetic is already in play. The Sun, the great activator,
reaches Jupiter on the 5th and Uranus on the 9th. In between the two, it carries the energy of
Jupiter to Uranus, essentially triggering their contact, even though it is not currently exact. These
few days will hold the key to transcendence, but they are not the only dates that are significant to
the process.
There are other mutable events this month as well: On the 19th, the Sun activates Pluto.
Although it is not interacting with Jupiter or Uranus right now, these interactions are in their
formative stages. In astrology, that means they’re as good as already happening, because other
planets trigger them in succession through a process called translation of light. (Jupiter reaches
Pluto in December, while Uranus contacts Pluto in 2013–14.)
Pluto is at the end of its sign, and it is currently the void-of-course planet. This means that
it is usually the planet at the latest degree of any sign. This translates to mean that Pluto rules the
outcome of any situation in our lives right now, so all events end in transformation. We are all
going through tremendous changes right now. If you listen to the news, you’ll hear new truths
coming to the surface every day, at a dizzying pace. This is the same in our own lives. If you
have a chance, write them down! When the pace finally slows, you’ll have a hard time
remembering all the revelations that come, but you’ll certainly be able to use them in your life,
because Pluto ingrains what we learn at a very deep level of consciousness.
Transformation will be our primary focus when the Sun and Pluto make their hook-up.
This date is the midpoint of Pluto’s yearly cycle, which began on December 18. Whatever you
started then, you’ll be halfway through with on June 19. This is the point of maximum
illumination that will permit you to make more informed decisions to successfully resolve the
situations and dilemmas associated with this cycle.
One More Mutable Event
More clarity comes when Uranus begins its 5-month retrograde period on the 23rd. When
its cycle began on March 5, it was underscored and intensified by the eclipse that occurred on
March 3. We can look forward to events of that weekend tying into what we experience around
the time of Uranus’s turning point. Events on or around January 22 will also factor into what
occurs. Whatever comes up on the 19th will be resolved through events happening on September
9 and November 24.
Mercury Speaks.
I’ve already mentioned Mercury’s retrograde. This begins on June 15. Like its last
retrograde, this one does not make significant contact with any other planets: Mercury does not
encounter any gods whose messages he is bound to carry to us. This means that the impact of
what Mercury has to teach us is not confused and compounded by the issues associated with
other planets. This doesn’t mean that the impact of Mercury retrograde will be negligible. Much
depends on how it impacts your birth chart. I will guarantee that your life will be enriched by the
message that it conveys to you. We have the luxury of finding its voice easier to hear when it is
traveling backward. Mercury returns to forward motion on July 9 while still in Cancer.
Bye-Bye, Saturn-Neptune — and to the Fixed Pattern
If you have any planets in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or Aquarius (as most of us do), you’re
off the hook as of June 25. You’ve been on the hook since the end of July 2005, so it’s been a lo-o-ong haul! This is a good time to take stock of your experiences. Something started in your life
in August 05, and you’ve been working on it ever since then. It shouldn’t be too hard to figure
out what it is, but it may be harder to determine what you’re learning from it. To get in touch
with it, it may be helpful to review your experiences since then. Chances are, the roots lie in
something you did or an intention you set during the fall of 2005. You made a commitment to
yourself to accomplish something, and now you’re on the other side of the mountain.
If you’re human, you’ll have noticed that you haven’t gotten there yet. That’s because it’s
not time for the process to be complete. You took on something big, and it’s still a work in
progress. It may be a relief to realize this, because we can feel the energies shift. As they shift, we
may get the sense that we should be done with whatever we set out to do.
Well, that isn’t the case here. There is one process where this is true, but there are several
others where the beat goes on for a while longer.
Part of this pattern is the connection between Saturn and Neptune. They are going to part
company on the 25th; by the end of August, they will be like strangers to each other. This may
feel like an ending, but it isn’t. In fact, Saturn and Neptune are at the midpoint of their cycle,
which lasts about 37 years. The cycle we’re in now started in 1989, and we have until January
2026 before the next cycle begins. That gives us 19 years to go! This will only apply to one,
underlying process in our lives. This process will be most significant if you were born in 1926,
1936, 1944, 1952-53, 1963, 1971-72, 1989, 1999, because you have Saturn and Neptune in
association with each other in your birth chart.
If you were born during one of these periods, the past two years have been especially
significant to you (as are the other dates in the series if you were alive then). The Saturn-Neptune
combination, at its core, is about the balance in our lives between the visible (Saturn) and
invisible (Neptune). In spite of their apparent differences, they both have to do with the structure
of the world. Just because we can’t see something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist! In fact, Neptune
is about exactly those parts and aspects of the universe that are real but can’t be seen. When these
planets come together, we are challenged to understand the links between the seen and unseen.
The better we are at this, the easier and more robust/harmonious are the outcomes for us.
If you have a Saturn-Neptune association in your chart, it is a major key to what drives
you in life. Through Saturn we feel our responsibility to others and to the planet and all living
things. Through Neptune we experience our ideals and our longing for union with the whole (the
bonds between all forms of consciousness are detectable in the unseen world). You are
commissioned with the task, in some way, of revealing the link to others, even if it is through
your own unique way of struggling with the dilemmas this combination presents.
It can come through the time-honored “spirituality versus money” (false) dichotomy, or
the current one, “science versus religion” (also a false split), to name just two of the infinite
number of ways this can be expressed. If you were born in one of the years mentioned above, it is
essential to your life process that you “get” what this energy pattern is about. There is no better
time than now, when we are at the tail end of the current period of connectedness. So take the
time to research it through your appointment book, checkbook or bank statement, email
messages, etc. Here are key dates to look for. Always look for events within 2 weeks or so of the
exact date, but the closer to the exact date the more likely it is to be related to your unique
expression of this energy. The dates are the first two weeks of August 06, August 31 (06),
November 06 (all of it), December 5 (06), February 8–10 and 28, April 19, May 9–12, and June
25. There are other dates, but these are the most important ones and will serve as focal points.
If you were not born in one of these years but have planets in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, or
Aquarius (the fixed signs), you are also affected, so these suggestions apply to you but with less
reverberation through the rest of your life experiences beyond these dates in 2005–07.
Throughout this period, I’ve written about the Saturn-Neptune combination from various
perspectives. To access the forecasts for the relevant months, go to
www.terrylamb.net/pastfore.htm.
Chart B shows the Saturn-Neptune opposition (in the segments labeled 6 and 12). To the
trained eye, this is a particularly potent period, because the planets are hanging together
extraordinarily well and create harmonies to offset the challenging energies and make them
useful. We as humans tend to lounge about when we are not goaded to act. There are just enough
goads in this pattern to get us to do something, but enough harmonies to make the outcomes
beneficial. This balance of energies is pretty much available to us throughout June.

As each world stands in stark profile to the other during this time, it is our opportunity to
see how they connect, bleed through to each other, and offer a representation of each other in
symbol. This is fantastic time to study archetypes and symbology, for they straddle the divide
between these worlds. Through their interconnection, we can see the unseen energetic world
through the events of the mundane world. Just
like the signal we receive when we get all
green lights, the physical world is a rich
symbolic system communicating about the
hidden reality that lies just beneath the
surface.
Saturn’s End Days
If you recall, I left a loophole in my
argument that we’ve still got (a lot) longer to
go to complete the processes we’re working
on now. In part, this is because Saturn is
singing its swan song to the sign of Leo,
which it has inhabited since mid-July 05. It
will enter Virgo at the end of August (just in
time to imprint the solar returns (birthday
charts) of all you Virgos out there).
This will be a great moment, because
finally, for the first time since June 2003,
Saturn will not be in a sign of its detriment.
When a planet is in detriment, we humans do
not do very well with its energy. Saturn went
into Cancer in 2003; that was when people’s
fears of terrorism (and each other) came to a
peak. As a group, we were pretty much able to see through that perspective by July 05, but
another filled our heads — social fear, which was expressed as fear of others who were different
from us socially: immigrants, (illegal) aliens, people of different political
parties/religions/cultures.
During these times, we forget about what unites us, that we all have common needs and
face many dilemmas in common. When Saturn enters Virgo, we have a better chance of reaching
that understanding. We can already see the primary issue of Saturn in Virgo: healthcare, and the
safety of our food supply. These areas of public policy are ripe for change and have not been
addressed seriously for at least 30 years.
Saturn’s movement into Virgo will heat things up in the mutable signs, which are pretty
hot already! In fact, we get another taste of that this month
Saturn’s Cycle Is Culminating.
Saturn’s yearly cycle started last August 7th. We got a blast of its energy around
December 5th, and now at its culmination we can see what we are creating and take our foot off
the accelerator a little. It’s not that continued persistent attention and activity is not required, just
that we will notice that we’re doing more “follow-through” than “start-up”. It’s a time of self-assessment as well. How are you doing with Saturn’s cycle so far? Are you accomplishing
enough? Too much? If you’re stressed out, you’re doing too much. You’re not letting the
universe carry the load enough. If you’re frozen in place, you may not be taking advantage of all
that Saturn has to offer you. Try getting yourself in motion, even if it’s doing something familiar
and unrelated to your goals. Then you can transfer the momentum to new tasks that are more
important to you.
Your plans will be fulfilled by the end of August, with a major positive turning point in
mid-June.
There Are Still Some Waves to Ride.
If you look at either chart for the month, you’ll see that there is no shortage of
harmonious blue lines in them. They form a kite and a grand trine in Chart A, and plenty of
harmonies later in the month (Chart B), although less well-formed. Mars and Jupiter are in the
signs of their rulership (Mars until the 24th), and they will connect cooperatively on the 4th. Even
after that, there are times when their positive energies can be used. Saturn also participates in the
general harmony and ensures that there are good outcomes, even in the midst of difficulty.
The writer’s message in “The Fountain” is that there is no death, only transcendence and
ecstacy. We can experience this as fact in June. No matter what your story is at the end of the
month, it will be much different than it was at the beginning. Permit yourself to go with the flow
in the way that fills your heart, and you can’t go wrong. Get ready for lift-off!
