Past forecasts

W e’re now feeling the energy of a newly focalizing pattern, one that I’ve been talking about for some months in more abstract terms, but one which, as I experience it on a personal level, brings new insights. This is the opposition of Saturn and Neptune. Although we can’t see either of them right now (Saturn is too close to the Sun), picture this: About an hour before sunrise, Saturn rises above the eastern horizon. At the same time, Neptune is setting on the western horizon. This expresses volumes to an astrologer, but if you are not, you may desire more insight into what it means.

Saturn is the limitations that structure and time place on our life, put simply. Neptune is the discomfiting limitlessness (hence amorphousness) that we experience when we take a step forward and all our foot encounters is thin air. If you can imagine the dilemmas that might arise when these two naturally opposing forces actually oppose each other (instead of avoiding or trying to work together), you begin to see what I see.

Uncertainty is the key word. Certainly (pun intended) we can the tie-in with the high gas prices (Neptune is associated with substances that flow, while Saturn is, again, limitation of it.) Whenever we are uncertain about something, it challenges our equilibrium. Each of us responds in our own way, learned through years of events and misadventures when these planets have been in contact previously. They are in a similar contact about every 8 years, the last time in 1998. This pattern will be with us through June 2007, permitting us a variety of ways to understand and work with it.

Informed Faith

When we are uncertain, we may begin to waver on our path. We may develop amnesia about the clarity we had when we first embarked on it. Saturn-Neptune is about having faith, but it is not the blind faith that can lead us astray onto a path of illusion; it is the informed faith of one who recognizes (or at least remembers) that you began to travel this path from a place of balance and clarity, so it is inwardly correct. Even if it appears in the moment to be externally misguided, this is not the time to ditch your plan. With informed faith, you can remain firm in your path — you know to persevere through the obstacles. As long as you follow “the path of the true and the good” (to borrow a term from the I Ching), you can be sure of a good outcome in the fullness of time.

The path that you are on in some way began in 1989 and went through further developments in 1998. Examine those times to get in touch with the meaning this theme has in your own life. I discovered, through my own experiences and the ones of those around me, that foggy or hidden circumstances have been coming to light. Faulty thinking (sometime but not always my own) is surfacing; efforts to clear the air encounter obstacles, frequently in the form of an individual who is resistant to discovering the truth.

With this planetary combination, life becomes inexplicably very complicated. Random obstacles arise out of nowhere, as if to tauntingly remind us that we are not in control of our lives. Now is a time of culmination, and the ghosts that appear out of nowhere are indirectly tied into the situation you are creating, whether you are aware of it or not.

Because Saturn and Neptune interact three times over the next 10 months, we get a prolonged opportunity to create success based on their combined nature. It also means that complete success will not be ours until the end of that time and that we can create a bigger success because of the bigger opening.

All told, this planetary cycle lasts for about 36 years, so we will only experience 3 at most during our lifetime. If you were born in the years shown in the following table, you will notice more change in your life and thereby benefit by this pattern more than others will. The years for which this is especially significant are in bold. “Conflict” is meant to suggest conflict in the sense used in literature or movies (any story).

1917

New cycle starts (Saturn conjoins Neptune)

1926

Conflict of cycle emerges (opening square)

1936

Culmination of gathering energy results in climax of conditions. Same contact type as now (Saturn opposite Neptune)

1944–45

Conflict reveals unresolved issues (closing square)

1952–53

New cycle starts (Saturn conjoins Neptune)

1963

Conflict of cycle emerges (opening square)

1971–72

Culmination of gathering energy results in climax of conditions. Same contact type as now (Saturn opposite Neptune)

1979–80

Conflict reveals unresolved issues (closing square)

1989

New cycle starts (Saturn conjoins Neptune)

1998

Conflict of cycle emerges (opening square)

2006–07

Culmination of gathering energy results in climax of conditions. Same contact type as now (Saturn opposite Neptune)

2015–16

Conflict reveals unresolved issues (closing square)

Even though I use the word “benefit”, we may not feel the benefit at the time, unless we are able to stay in touch with the big picture. In the short run, we are likely to have doubts, feel disillusioned, and wonder if we should give up. Regardless of what we do or encounter, we will learn a lot, and that is the indisputable benefit of this type of transit. Ultimately, the interaction of these planets permits us to bring our ideals and dreams into form in our lives. You know those things we say will make us happy? It is through these planets that we can create that happiness.

The Flux and Flow of Saturn-Neptune

Saturn and Neptune are both slow-moving planets, and as they interact, they will return to the relationship they have now two more times. Symbolically, that means that we will return to the reality, position, or circumstances that we are experiencing now two more times. However, as humans, we have the power to ameliorate, even completely change, our experience of those circumstances because we learn from what happens to us.

So, at the first pass, you discover, say, a health matter that needs attention (note that by now we know what this planetary period holds for us). At that point, you can choose to ignore it or do something about it. If you ignore it, the second contact will bring up the issue again but more dramatically, giving you a second chance to resolve the problem. If you ignore that, the third contact may bring more serious consequences that are long lasting. If you decide to and are able to do something to improve your health, your experience of the second and third contacts will improve, providing you do the right things. The quite achievable ideal is to improve your situation to be better than it was before the original health challenge (and planetary transit) occurred.

Other Factors Bring Both Complications and Relief.

The two additional contacts occur on February 28 and June 25, 2007. However, there will be additional contacts from other planets that will tune us into what these contacts will bring us. Some of them will add sub-plots to the main plot, while others will divert our attention in pleasant ways or provide solutions to the dilemmas that arise. Here’s the time table related to Saturn-Neptune for the rest of the year:

September 24

Jupiter squares Neptune

a new opportunity if you can manage it in the midst of the other challenges

October 25

Jupiter squares Saturn (3rd of 3)

You reach a new plateau based on actions taken so far in 2006.

Late October – mid-November

various contacts

our awareness of how we’re doing in resolving our dilemmas is heightened, and progress can be assessed. Are we headed in the right direction?

November 17 and 28

Mars contacts each planet

a recurrence of the challenges of 2005. How much progress have we made since then?

In particular, on September 24 Jupiter enters the picture. This boosts the power of what we’re already experiencing, but not beyond what was happening at the end of August – beginning of September. A possible scenario is discovering new information that will support a positive resolution of current challenges.

And Now, for Your Added Entertainment . . .

If you have placements in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces), you will have an active month. There are four major events affecting these signs, occurring on the 4th, 5th, 7th, and 22nd. In addition, there are events tied to planets in supporting roles on the 1st, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, and 26th. This is good news, because in general there will be a resolution of a thread in our lives which was activated on or around December 15 (2005), March 14 and 29, and June 16.

This will feel like a release and a relief, a resolution of something that could have been overwhelming you for several months. There was a need to shine the light of truth on the situation, and if you have been persistent in doing so, you will reap the benefits starting now.

If your life has been timed according to this schedule, you’ll find that what happens on the 22nd ties into this experience. This will be Stage 2 of a 3-stage process that is completed next year.

The Unexpected

There is an element of the unexpected that will be in operation around the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 15th. This will come shrouded in chaos but is an opportunity in disguise. If you can flow with the process, you will reap (further) rewards from this starting around November 20.

Two of the events (affecting mutable signs) I’m discussing are eclipses, on the 7th and 22nd. Eclipses always permit us to put one set of circumstances to rest and move on to another set. If an eclipse contacts our chart in a big way, they can herald a major turning point in life. The Lunar Eclipse (a barely visible partial eclipse) is shown in Chart A.

September Is Nice, Too.

Several planets move into the “nice” sign of Libra during September. In particular, Mercury and Mars come together, forming the pattern shown in Chart B (with a few bonus harmonious contacts as well). On the whole, these contacts bode well for fruitful communication related to healing and resolving emotional issues. Wealth and innovation are also favored.

As the Sun enters Libra on the 22nd, previous pressures relax. Events generally turn out better, especially as October begins. Throughout the month, there remains the beneficial contact of Jupiter and Uranus, a reminder that innovative thought will bring opportunity for success, no matter what the situation.

Although there’s no question that new challenges are afoot, we can work through them to our advantage whatever our circumstances. In the end, you will have gained great benefit, that of manifesting fulfillment and happiness into your life.
