after a few months of an average number of planetary events, october brings us quite a complex, “usual suspects” plot. what is fascinating about the events is how they weave and connect with each other, lending significance to past previously trivial events and portending the future. the main players are venus, jupiter and neptune; and mercury and saturn.
the dance at 28° – 29° mutable
now, you know that mercury has been retrograde since september 14, and if you’re like most of us, you’re watching to see when it goes direct, which is on october 6th. this would all fine and good, except that saturn goes retrograde at the same degree of gemini (well, the next one, then) in the same week. i don’t know about you, but that strikes me as an attention-grabber. so, what are we dealing with — is this a one-shot deal, or are there more hits to come. w-e-e-e-l-l-l, yes there are. the full moons this fall are around 28°. the one on september 21st triggered this point, and the one on december 19th does as well.
since saturn and mercury made contact during merc’s retrograde, it is contacting saturn two other times. one occurred on august 24th, and the second occurs on october 3rd, and the third falls on october 9th. finally, since saturn is turning retrograde at this degree, it means that something is being left undone at the time that the degree is triggered by saturn — something that will be completed around may 27th, when saturn returns to this date.
so, what does this mean? we’re still in the developmental stages, but on the world scene, it appears to be related to war on iraq and — eternally it seems — the israeli-palestinian conflict. on september 21st, both u.s. president bush and israel were on the offensive. bush pushed his war rhetoric more to the right, while israel stormed arafat’s headquarters destroying all buildings but the one containing arafat’s office. the dates that are involved in this pattern are: 8/24, 9/21, 10/3, 10/6, 10/9, 10/11, 12/17, 2/22/03, and 5/27/03. the date which should reveal the full impact of the series is october 11th, when saturn turns retrograde. then we’ll see what the rest of the cycle has in store for us.
in your own life, think back to what has happened on the dates that have already passed. keep track of what happens on each date as it occurs. you will be able to see a theme or thread of a story running through your life related to these dates. it is likely to have to do with how you are coping with the larger world events, including the economic downturn. of course, there will also be personal issues for those whose natal planets are touched. the general theme is sorting out truth from lies. a lot of lies masquerade as truth these days, and it pays to read the fine print and look at many sources before you make up your mind. generally, the best sources for information are those who do not have a vested interest in what they say. for instance, the best sources of news on the u.s. are usually the foreign media. in your own life, the same theme will lie somewhere, but it will be more difficult to see because we are so much closer to the subject.
this is a good transit because it brings out the truth. it can also be good for goading us into the discipline required for learning something really important. if you need to work hard to accomplish something, you will find the drive to do so under these contacts.
the dreamers collide: the venus-jupiter-neptune pattern
you could call this a square dance with one side of the square missing. when jupiter entered leo in early august, it began to oppose neptune in aquarius, which it does for about a year. about that time, several major corporations went down the toilet or were at least on their way. venus is now about to turn retrograde, which it does once every 18 months, this time in scorpio. it will, because it will pass over the same degrees three times, trigger jupiter and neptune. while this can be quite revealing, even helpful in the long run, it is often comfortable in the moment. (you know — how martha stewart must feel as her lies are exposed to the legal eagles.)
the theme of this process is the curtailment of grandiose schemes. this is of course happening in the corporate world, but it will also happen in our personal lives. the critical dates for this are 9/7, 9/11(/02), 9/19, 9/24, 10/10, 10/17, 10/20, 10/30, 10/31, 11/9, 11/20, 12/4, 12/13, 12/15, 12/24, 12/27, 2/2/03, 2/16/03, 4/3/03, and 6/2/03. yes, it makes my head spin to look at this number of dates, too. however, just look at the dates for what has happened so far and keep track of what happens as each one transpires. the biggest date this fall when you’ll see the true shape of things to come is october 10th, when venus turns retrograde. pay attention to the other dates in october as well, for now. they will be played out through the end of this year. anything not completed then will be tied up on or around the dates in 2003.
this may, for most of us, involve a change in our way of handling money and understanding our finances as well as a change in our relationships in some way. typically, venus retrograde periods are times when we review and revise our unconscious agreements with our loved ones, unless we are wise enough to make our agreements consciously. even though relationships and money are typically intermixed, they will be more so this time than usual because of the involvement of the three dreamers. venus, jupiter, and neptune are all feel-good planets, and they’re at odds with each other right now. so don’t expect any pleasure to go unchecked during this time. (but if that’s all we have to deal with, it’s not that bad, is it?)
ultimately, of course, we will gain a new footing in our lives with our partner, family and others with whom our lives are intimately tied. this is the taking-off point for the next 18 months, when we get to play out our new financial plans and personal agreements.
we can always turn difficult aspects, which these can be, into gifts. this can be a great gift if we decide to use these energies for creative purposes. there’s a lot of juice for the imagination here. social events and activities can also be featured. while this is not normally a great time to form a long-lasting relationship, you may still find that meaningful contacts occur during this time, even some that turn into long-lasting ties later on.
as you can see, 2003 is really already taking shape, and it is being formed by the interactions of the planets i’ve discussed here. so, look at world and national events; look at your personal life on these days, and you’ll have a jump on what 2003 holds for all of us, at least in the first half.
so that’s where the real action is this month. stay alert to events on the days i highlighted, keep a few notes, and you’ll be able to see the themes emerge in your life like so many flowers. may they bloom for you in great abundance during the coming months!
